Tech in 2 - Episode 2: How to Choose the Right TV Display Size for a Collaboration Space

Choosing the right display size for a collaboration space starts with understanding how people will use the room and the content they need to see. Factors such as visual acuity, viewing distance, presentation content, and architectural constraints can then help determine the right conference room TV size and create a better viewing experience for everyone.

[Music] Hey there, I'm Dan Allen, enterprise architect at FORTÉ. One of the most common design related questions we hear from IT leaders is, "How large should my displays be?" With standard displays above 80 in becoming more and more commonplace and affordable than ever and new display trends like ultrawide 21-9 formats gaining popularity, we understand it's easy to be overwhelmed. The best starting place is visual acuity, which just means your ability to discern text or other important content at a given distance without any eye strain or fatigue. Luckily, there are some great viewing standards and calculators available to help us that are all based on exhaustive research by industry trade organizations like AVIXA. The next consideration is content. Content with extremely small text or high resolution imagery requires larger display sizes than a typical business document or slide content. Again, we can use the same calculators mentioned earlier to account for these content differences. Finally, it's important to consider the architectural limits of the room. One common challenge is extremely long rooms within standard office environments. Although calculations may call for an extremely large display, this size often won't fit within the available wall space due to ceiling height. In these cases, we may recommend a concession in size or content to ensure a great user experience. Sound too complex? FORTÉ is here to help. We do this every day and can help you choose the right size display for your space.
