Hi everyone, my name is Percy Pineda, platform architect on the innovation team at FORTÉ. Today I wanted to share a story about AV and cyber security that might sound familiar, and why it matters to all of us. Picture this. A global company has just finished building out its brand new headquarters: state-of-the-art video walls, conference rooms with the latest collaboration gear, even smart scheduling panels outside of every meeting space. The ribbon cutting happens. The system works flawlessly until one day a board meeting is interrupted because an AV network was breached because an unsecured device was exposed. What started out as a tech glitch turned into an all-out IT incident. That's the reality. AV is no longer just projectors and speakers. These devices are connected, cloud-managed, and often hold microphones and cameras, making them part of the cyber security conversation. Here are a few best practices to lock things down. Number one, update firmware and software regularly. Those update available pop-ups, they're not just for fun. They often patch security holes. Don't ignore them. Number two, use strong passwords and MFA. 1 2 3 4 is great if you want to invite in hackers. Try and leverage complex passwords and often use multifactor authentication when possible. Number three, segment your network. Keep AV devices on their own VLAN or network segment. That way, if one device is compromised, the rest of the network will stay safe. Number four, limit access. Not everyone needs admin rights. Make sure you assign permissions carefully and always remember to remove any unused accounts. And number five, work with trusted vendors like FORTÉ. Choose partners who take security seriously and provide regular updates. Listen, cyber security isn't just an an IT problem now. It's part of AV. Protecting your systems means protecting your people, your meetings, and your data. So remember, great AV experiences always begin with great security. Thanks for stopping by.
